Expert advice from health professionals on dieting for type 2 diabetes patients :


- the treatement of type 2 diabetes ( also called non insulino-dependent diabetes ) isnt all about medical prescriptions but a healthy diet combined with regular physical activity remains the main pillar of an effective treatement of this widespread disease .

- Type 2 diabetes is frequently associated to ovreweight and obesity which is to a large extent incriminated in the insulino-resistance observed in this disease ( which means insulin doesnt act effectively on its targets to get sugar inside the cells ) ! So what we eat plays a major role as far as type 2 diabetes is concerned .

So here are some very important tips as to how to eat healthy and prevent your disease from getting worse  : 


1- You should have 3 to 4 meals per day and favour foods that are not rich in sugar or fat !

So we recommend eating vegetables especially chicory green beans , tomatoes and eggplants that are low in calories and rich in fibers !
Vegetables are extremely beneficial because they are loaded with vitamins oligoelements and they slow down the absorption of glucose by the intestines and thus lowering blood sugar .

2- We also recommend eating protein-rich foods which are low in fat like fish poultry ( turkey guinea fowl and chicken are the best ) while avoiding lamb and porc meat .


3- You should drink low-fat dairy products that are rich in proteins and calcium without forgeting whey that is known to have beneficial stimulating effect on insulin secretion by the pancreas .

4- We also advise to cut back on starchy foods ( but without eliminating them ! ) like bread , potatoes, pasta and spaghetti ..etc  because they put some more pounds on you , in 1 kg of bread there are 500 g of sugar while 1 kg of pasta or rice contain 700g of sugar so you must favour rye bread over white bread , and black rice over white rice , because they increase blood sugar less rapidly.

sugary foods : jam honey , of course all kinds of Sodas sweet drinks and fruit juice are to be banned because all of them are soo rich in  glucose and tend to raise rapidly blood sugar level and thus hyperglycemia and consequently increased secretion of insulin that will stimulate fatty tissu formation and more weight gain .


5- Drink sufficient amounts of water ( 1.5 liter  per day ) to keep yourself very well hydrated .

6- Fruits are necessary but you should be careful as to their content of sugar ! watermelon , appeles , strawberries and raspberries are welcome in your diet but watch out for figs , grapes and cherries .

7- Finally dont forget that steadiness and strict adhesion to this diet over weeks and months are necessary to have a durable and tangible result that will be seen in a healthy existence with excellent blood sugar balance.
